3 Ways To Help Your Back Pain

Health & Medical Blog

Back pain is one of the most common ailments in America today. Whether it's due to heavy lifting, excess weight, or a lack of exercise, back pain can be debilitating and interfere with your everyday routine in a big way. Back pain can be a very difficult condition to treat, but fortunately, there are steps you can take to help get rid of your back pain before it becomes severe. If you're one of the millions of Americans affected by back pain, consider implementing these 3 tips to help you feel better than ever.

Eat More Broccoli

Broccoli is the answer to many health problems, and back pain is no exception. You probably know calcium is a necessity for strong bones, but what many people don't know is that you need an adequate amount of Vitamin K for that calcium to be absorbed by your bones. Vitamin K is found in broccoli, as well as other leafy greens, so eating more of it will ensure your bones are getting the calcium they need. When your bones are strong, your back will suffer less from injury and strain.

Re-position Your Pillows

When you're tired after a long day, nothing feels better than letting your head hit your pillow, but if your pillows aren't positioned properly, you could be contributing to your back pain. In order to ensure you're not exacerbating your back problems, you have to position your pillow so that your head is in alignment with your spine. If you sleep on your back, make sure your chin isn't pressing into your chest. If you sleep on your side, make sure your chin doesn't press into your shoulder.

Strengthen Your Core

When your back hurts, you may think strengthening your back muscles is the answer. While that is important, strengthening your core muscles is even more important because it can help prevent your back from being injured in the first place. Your core is your front support system for your spine, so if it's weak, your back has to pick up the slack, which makes it susceptible to injury. You can strengthen your core by performing this simple exercise: Lie on the floor with your knees up and your feet flat on the floor. Tilt your pelvis up by pulling your belly button into your spine and pressing your back into the floor. You can do 3 sets of 10 reps each daily to see results.

Back pain is extremely common and can be extremely painful, but utilizing these tips can help alleviate your back pain and help prevent it in the future. Click here for more information.
