4 Tips For A Better Contact Lens Experience

Blog

If you currently need glasses in order to see correctly and are looking for a better way to see clearly, you may be thinking about purchasing contact lenses. This option allows many people to feel more comfortable about their experience while seeing more clearly. Contact lenses may be a good option for you to consider, but you should be aware of special care needs for contacts before you start wearing them. Take a look at the following information for some helpful tips on how to best care for your contact lenses in order to have a good experience.

Replace Your Lenses Regularly

It's important that you follow the recommended time-frame when wearing contact lenses. If your lenses are supposed to be only worn for 2 weeks, make sure that you don't wear them for a month! This can cause a serious infection, as you will be putting contacts with debris in your eyes! In addition, the contacts may not function as well as a brand new pair, which can make it unsafe to see.

Don't Use Your Saliva

If you're in a pinch and need to wet your contact lenses, don't use your saliva! This is full of bacteria and can be harmful to your eyes and your lenses. It's a good idea to get into the routine of carrying around extra solution in case your eyes get dry. These days, companies make travel size solutions so that it's easier than ever.

Don't Fall Asleep in Your Lenses

While you may be tempted to fall asleep in your lenses so that you can go to bed right away, it's not a good idea. This is not good for your eyes! It's important for your eyes to breathe for several hours during the night. If you wear contacts constantly, your eyes won't get necessary oxygen. If you want to be able to sleep with your lenses, it's recommended that you talk with your doctor to make sure he or she prescribes special lenses for this type of wear.

Don't Rub Your Lenses When Cleaning

It's important to take care when cleaning your contact lenses. You shouldn't rub solution into your lenses. This can transfer oil and other particles from your finger to the lens. This can also damage the lenses if you're not careful!

As you can see, it's important to take extra care when using contact lenses. If you have any questions or concerns, or if you'd like to discuss getting a contact lens prescription, contact a local eye doctor like Jeffrey C. Fogt, OD today to learn more.
